Candidasa & the rest
 Tabanan
Tabanan comprises two main regions, the hills, and the lower plain. It is latter that lies Bali's most famous site, the Tanah Lot Temple.
Karangasem
Karangasem is Bali's Eastern most regency, and its gate to the Lesser sunda Islands across the Lombok strait, which is a busy international sea lane. The most famous beach of Karangasem though, is Candi Dasa, that is often mentioned as the replica of Kuta in Eastern Bali.
Klungkung
Klungkung, Bali's smallest regency, is also the one with the richest history. Except for a few beaches and landscapes those of Nusa Penida are treated in another section most of Klungkung's interest lies in its historical heritage.
Jembrana
For those travelling by land and ferry from Java to Bali, the regency of Jembrana is where the discovery of Bali begins.
Bangli
This Southern rice growing area, is one of the most enticing of the island, especially if one walks off main roads to the discovery of village lanes and ricefields. The magical charm of Bali is all there; clutter of shrines in midst of ricefields, alignment of brick gates in the village streets and the looming presence of the tall pule and giant banyan tree.
Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan
Southeast of Bali, across the deep and treacherous Badung Strait, the islands of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, Nusa Penida rise alluringly out of the ocean swell. The nearest to the mainland is Nusa Lembongan, which is less than two hours by boat from Sanur and encircled by a mixture of whitesand beaches and mangrove. Seaweed farming is the major occupation, while the islands other main source of income is the tourist facilities in Mushroom Bay, Chelegimbai and Jungutbatu which grew up after the surf breaks off the northwest coast brought the first visitors to the island.
